A couple of weeks ago I met up with my old friends and teammates at Headingley AFC to commemorate ten years since the passing of a great friend and club legend Lewis Keogh. Lewis tragically took his own life as a result of gambling addiction, a condition that accounts for over 500 suicides in the UK alone - a staggering and shocking statistic.
Every year former players. managers, supporters and associates of Headingley AFC gather for a mini football tournament in remembrance of Lewis whilst raising money and awareness of the dangers of problem gambling through Gambling With Lives - an amazing charity founded by Charles and Liz Ritchie (who themselves lost their son to gambling addiction)
I was honoured to co-sponsor the event alongside Gambling With Lives, the stall was really well supported and it was fantastic to chat to so many different people, many of whom had travelled from all over
the country to be there.
After the football we heard incredibly moving and emotional speeches by Lewis' dad Pete about what Lewis Keogh day means to the Keogh family and also from Gambling With Lives founder Charles about the work the charity does tackling the gambling industry and lobbying the government about gambling laws and legislation. This was followed by great live music performed by Future Revolution and a stunning acoustic set by the hugely talented Sam Hasson
It was an absolutely incredible day, raising nearly £3000 for Gambling With Lives. It was probably the best LK Day ever, one that will live long in the memory and I cant wait for the next one.
